Highway traffic counting for outdoor advertising analytics
A camera on a highway billboard counts and classifies passing vehicles, producing impressions data advertisers use for media planning.
The challenge
Advertisers wanted evidence of how many vehicles actually passed each billboard, but there was no reliable, continuous count.
What we built
- Vehicle frames annotated by class (car, bus, truck, two-wheeler) to fine-tune a pretrained YOLOv8 model on local traffic.
- Frame-skip optimization processes every fourth frame to handle high-FPS video efficiently.
- Centroid tracking keeps unique vehicle IDs across frames so each vehicle is counted once.
- Class-wise counts exposed through an API to feed hourly and daily traffic-density reports.
Results
- Evidence-based impressions data for media planning
- Benchmarking of billboard visibility and reach
- Automated reporting with no manual counting
Step by step.
Capture
A billboard-mounted camera records continuous traffic.
Detect & classify
A fine-tuned model recognizes four vehicle classes.
Track
Unique IDs prevent double-counting.
Report
Counts feed hourly and daily impressions reports.

Automated visual inspection on a camshaft production line
A line-side camera reads each camshaft's engraved serial number and flags surface defects in real time, logging every part for traceability.
Real-time fire and hazard detection from video
Live and recorded camera feeds are analyzed in real time, with fire and flame events flagged and streamed to a browser dashboard.
